We had a successful meeting and great discussion.
There were 12 attendees for the SIG forum and 20 attendees for the tutorial in the morning.
5 executive committee members were selected and the members are listed section 4.
We discussed a variety of issues and had reports of current status of telepathology from Japan, Europe and US.

- Long term goals
Mission: to promote telepathology worldwide
Goal 1: to provide leadership and support for individuals charged with any aspect of telepathology
Goal 2: to Advise Pathology Practices on the technical capabilities and appropriate use of telepathology.
Goal 3. to advise Pathology Practices on the legal and reimbursement aspects of telepathology.
- Goals and Priorities for this year
Priority 1: Establish handbook of telepathology terminology and guidelines for telepathology training centers
We agreed to work together on a dictionary of terms and recommendations on minimum system requirements.
Priority 2: Investigating interoperability of telepathology systems and the suitability of telepathology for specific applications.
We agreed to work towards a standard method of data connectivity between different systems.
Priority 3: Three year review/update telepathology clinical guidelines (established by the Pathology SIG in 1999)
Executive committee members will re\evaluate the 1998 clinical guideline.
Other discussion included appropriate technology for a group of Chinese hospitals and a Solomon Island surgical practice
Executive committee will present a symposium on Telepathology at Advancing Pathology Informatics, Imaging and Internet (APIII 2002) conference in October 2002.
Special Interest Group will work with the Association for Pathology Informatics to integrate our activities.
